Description
Guan yin in lacquered wood perched on its stylized rock 17th century, vietnam this sculpture presents us with a particular image of the bodhisattva avalokiteshvara, in his feminine form of quan âm (guanyin). This aspect, very popular in neighboring china, is particularly revered in northern vietnam where this figure comes from. We recognize this bodhisattva by the costume, a cloak covering the shoulders and a veil on the head. The deity is seated with one leg bent, on a rock with jagged shapes. The folds of the fabric, the fullness of the forms, and the sense of elegance imbued with great majesty, are characteristic of the apogee of buddhist art, in the 17th century, in the hanoi region.
