Description
The djinn chairs were designed by olivier mourgue in 1965, while he was working for the french manufacturer airborne international, and epitomise ’60s ‘futuristic’ design. The chairs were not designed specifically for the film, but were chosen by kubrick and his team to create a futuristic scene in the movie, when dr floyd walks through the hilton lobby of space station five on his way to the moon. Unfortunately, the iconic status of the djinn chairs was conferred retroactively. Despite enthusiastic critical reception, airborne had a tough time selling the djinn chairs to retailers and customers at the time, who deemed the avant-garde design as “obscene.” airborne didn’t survive the 1974 oil crisis and has been resold several times since, never regaining the confidence that defined the company at its peak in the 1960s. For collectioneers today the djinn sofa is like a party. Just because of the design the sofa is amazingly beautiful and shows already exclusivity. But due to low selling numbers and the usage in the film this sofa is a true desire in any collection or houseroom.
