Pander desk, circa 1920
Large oak desk by the Dutch furniture maker H. Pander & Zonen, dating from around 1920–1925, the transitional period between Art Nouveau and early Art Deco. It features three spacious drawers on each side, six in total, and comes with the original key. Marked 'PANDER' and numbered 133203 on the underside of the top. The top has been refinished and is ready for use, while the rest of the desk retains its original, lived-in character. Sturdy and stately, but not heavy: the rounded corners, gently curved drawer fronts and dark wooden details give this desk a softer look than stricter desks from the 1930s. A special and practical desk for a study, library, shop or studio, suitable for a classic or Art Deco interior. Condition: good, with light signs of use consistent with age.
