Pair of Louis XV style armchairs, wide Queen's backs.

Pair of Louis XV style armchairs with generous seats and large backs known as "à la Reine." Richly moulded and carved, these armchairs are adorned with stylised foliage (acanthus), shells... They are upholstered with straps and springs and covered in a fabric or Genoa velvet. A gilding once enhanced the mouldings, but it has almost disappeared. The wood is solid beech stained walnut. The structure is sturdy, the fabrics have stains, the seat is still comfortable but could be firmer if the straps were tightened. A lovely model from the 19th century.
