This is a rectangular mirror with mouldings (or bevelled corners) dating from the 1950s. Length 41 cm / Height 32 cm. The wooden frame has a silver leaf finish (or aged silver patina). The decoration is carved with acanthus leaf motifs and scrolls. It is a classic rectangular format, but with an interesting feature: the upper corners of the central mirror are "cut" to accommodate small triangular mirrors (the mouldings), which are themselves decorated with leaf motifs. The glass shows significant oxidation (black spots and a grey veil). This is known as "pitted" glass. In decoration, this aspect is highly sought after for its authentic and vintage look. It is inspired by the Louis XV / Rococo style (for the foliage and curves), but with a more understated execution that recalls the Transition style.
