Antique pair of Aesthetic Movement wall sconces, swing arm, gilded bronze, circa 1900s, French

Pair of antique swing arm wall sconces from the aesthetic movement, fleur de lis foliage decoration, in gilded bronze, circa 1900s, French. Cleaned delicately while respecting the aged patina. Recently rewired and grounded, pat tested and ready to install. Each includes the following new components: a gold cable, e14 candle holders with card lids and two clip-on lampshades. Bulbs included. These lights can be used with a dimmer. It is possible to use these wall lights in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different bulbs suitable for the local electricity. These sconces were made in the style of the Aesthetic Movement that flourished in England and France between 1860 and 1900. The contrast between traditional and geometric designs makes these sconces a good example of the Aesthetic Movement style. The two appliques are stamped “dep” (which means “registered design” in French) on the round part of each vertical ankle which attaches to each arm. Aesthetic artists have drawn inspiration from various cultures and periods, in this example from ancient France with the decorative fleur-de-lis motif on brass, an emblem widely used in ornamentation, particularly in heraldry, long associated with the French crown and representing the royalty. The design consists of a single-pivot detachable arm attached to a round backplate. Each carries 1 small standard screw bulb (e14) up to 40 watts. Equipped with 25 watt clear candle bulbs, included in the price. Each sconce is finished with a new black silk clip-on shade lined with metallic gold. To attach these wall lights to the wall, there are two holes on the round back plate. Both sconces are in very good condition for their age. The fabulous antique patina has been retained on the metal, adding character. The frames are sound and show no damage. The gold finish is in good condition, with minor marks and rubbing consistent with age and wear. The 2 lampshades are new and in very good condition.
