Blue glazed stoneware pot RM Stein – Reinhold Merkelbach, 1960s

Deep blue glazed stoneware pot with relief decoration, produced by the German manufacturer Reinhold Merkelbach in the 1960s. The piece is distinguished by a sculptural silhouette rhythmically adorned with wavy registers, embellished with a stylised cream reserve decoration, applied with great regularity. The dense and shiny midnight blue glaze enhances the depth of the reliefs and gives the whole a strong visual presence, characteristic of quality West German pottery. The domed lid, perfectly fitted, is topped with an arched handle emblematic of RM Stein models. The interior, glazed in a light tone, contrasts elegantly with the exterior and showcases a meticulous finish. Stamped RM 3809: founded in the 19th century, the Reinhold Merkelbach factory is part of the great German ceramic tradition of the Westerwald. It experienced a golden age in the mid-20th century, during which assertively shaped stoneware pieces with deep glazes were produced, now highly sought after by collectors. In good vintage condition, with discreet signs of use consistent with age, mainly visible under the base. Height with lid 16.5 cm, height without lid 10.5 cm, diameter 13.5 cm.
