Charismatic Statue Of A Monk In Oak Carved By Leo De Groote

Period: 1946 this statue of a monk in a cape and hood exudes charisma. The simple square shaped body sits on a square leg which is part of the same block of oak. Although it is quite rustic in execution, it has wonderful expression and artistic value. On the back it is signed and dated (1946). The sculptor leo de groote (1902-1977) was a belgian artist who studied at the art academies of ghent and brussels. Condition: good. Very small signs of use. A corner of the foot is missing. Dimensions: 35 cm high, 10 cm wide, 7 cm deep, 1 kg.
