Large flat desk in Louis XV style made of mahogany, marquetry, leather, and bronze.
Large flat desk in Louis XV style, made in the late 19th or early 20th century, in wood and mahogany veneer, with marquetry of frieze work, leather-covered top and significant gilded bronze fittings. The desk rests on four cabriole legs. The uprights are adorned with female busts in gilded bronze of the type known as espagnolettes, extended by leafy drops down to the hooves. The frieze also features bronzes decorated with acanthus leaves, rockwork, and scrolls. The front opens with three drawers, one central and two side ones. The drawer fronts showcase a frieze veneer work, highlighted by gilded bronze frames. The keys for the drawers are present. The back replicates the decorative composition of the front with three false drawers, allowing the desk to be placed in the centre of a room. The leather shows scratches, stains, and signs of use. Wear and marks of time on the wood, veneers, and bronzes, visible in the photographs. Dimensions: L. 153 × H. 75 × D. 74 cm.
