Modernist ashtray by Metawa, Netherlands, 1960s.

A Dutch tabletop ashtray featuring a mechanical trapdoor system, manufactured by NV Metawa Holland in the 1960s. The design embodies the Mid-Century Modern style, with clear influences from the Space Age aesthetic and Bauhaus minimalism. It consists of a geometric, chrome-plated top paired with a rectangular metal reservoir and a distinctive light-colored plunger knob. Pressing the top button lowers an internal trapdoor, allowing ash to drop directly into the sealed container. This piece remains in its original condition, showing natural signs of use, minor scratches, and a light patina; it has been refreshed and retains a charming, authentic character. Dimensions: H 8 cm, W 12.5 cm, D 12.5 cm; weight: 0.5 kg.
