Kokeshi by the famous artist kouson sato, one of the few women to make creative kokeshi. Recognized as an accomplished artist, kouson worked in her studio in fukushima-ken, kuwaori-machi. Her dolls are easily recognizable by their wonderfully soft and smiling faces, the decoration on the body ranging from simple but elegant sumi-e brushstrokes to autumn leaves, camellia (winter rose) or chrysanthemum and bamboo. This beautiful doll wears a camellia flower "tsubaki" in japanese. In japan, camellia flowers are a symbolic flower of the arrival of spring, a period of renewal and the ephemeral nature of life. Red it is also the symbol of love, passion. Kokeshi are simple wooden dolls made for more than 150 years as children's toys. These japanese dolls are native to the northeastern region (tōhoku-chihō) of japan. Kokeshi doll making is now widely regarded as a japanese art form that requires a trained and skilled craftsman to produce high-quality kokeshi. They are precious and appreciated as a good luck charm. Dimensions: 29.5cm*6cm. Very good condition with some small stripes and marks. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. International shipping possible by dhl.
