Very rare and unique. Miniature Russian handmade porcelain travel chessboard, stamped Gzhel, Turigino near Moscow, vintage 1980s-90s, hand-painted in the traditional royal blue style with typical Gzhel floral and geometric patterns. Signed under the body and under the board by the artist Yuri Nikolaevich Garanin, Honored Artist of Russia since 1997. The base is a box with two compartments for the pieces, false drawers/handles on each side and four small feet. The chessboard, the board, serves as a lid. 16 white pieces, 16 black pieces, complete, kings 3 cm high, pawns 2 cm. Small felt squares at the base of the pieces. Board 19x19 cm, 21 cm long with handles, 20 cm wide for the body, 5.5 cm maximum height. A piece of great delicacy, much finesse in the details. Mint condition. Slightly wobbly on its feet. Approximately 1.280 kg for the whole set.
