Description
This delightful old sugar bowl or jam maker is made of polychrome earthenware from sarreguemines. This well-pansu pot is decorated with a polychrome fruit decoration and brown friezes. It is marked "opaque utschneider & cie" for the sarreguemines earthenware factory. The paste used here, called "opaque", was intended to imitate chinese porcelain. The production of this opaque earthenware began in the 1860s. In perfect condition, it measures 17 cm in diameter X 16 cm in height.
