If you want to know more about the new faïencerie de givors: The first earthenware factory opened in 1829. It was founded by the decean family, originally from harfleur (near le havre). The opening of the first railway line in france, between st etienne and lyon, allowed the rapid and economical transport of manufacturing and that of fuel, coal. Because grigny was practically the first earthenware factory in france to use this cooking process, difficult to implement, but particularly economical. The rhône met the need for water during manufacturing and allowed sales outlets to many large cities. Finally, the installation costs in grigny were lower than in lyon, where the price of land had soared when the railway was opened. They were rewarded with several medals (bronze in 1834, silver in 1839, ...) At the national exhibitions of art and industry, which later became the famous universal exhibitions. Perhaps they thought too big by opening a second earthenware factory in 1838. But above all, they continued to produce in addition to "fine earthenware", soft porcelain. They went bankrupt in 1841. They kept thanks to a family financial arrangement the first factory, which, despite an exceptional medal at the universal exhibition of 1855 in paris, ended up living and closing.
