This French floor lamp combines the functionality of auxiliary furniture with the technical work of architectural forging. The structure is made of patinated wrought iron, turned bronze, and brass. The circular top with a perimeter rim rests on a tripod base with three arched legs ending in open scrolls, braced by a lower central ring. From the centre of the table, the shaft integrates a model of a spiral staircase built in bronze and brass, extended at the top by an articulated reading arm with a double elbow in brass. The central helical staircase reproduces the classic layout of the vis de Saint-Gilles from the French guild tradition (compagnonnage), with turned bronze balusters and a continuous brass handrail ending in a scroll. This design is attributed to the art locksmith Émile Boulanger, active in Nantes at the beginning of the 20th century, coinciding with the documented model from the Henri Klinger Collection auctioned at Christie's Paris. Conceived as a guéridon-liseuse during the French postwar period, the adjustable arm allows the light to be directed directly onto a seat or onto the surface of the table. Its scale and sculptural presence integrate naturally into a library, office, or living room. Dimensions without lampshade: Height 133 cm, Width 46 cm, Depth 46 cm. Lampshade not included.
