Alabaster bust representing a young woman with her hair gathered at the back, wearing a bonnet adorned with floral patterns and scrolls reminiscent of lace, dressed in a gown decorated with similar motifs and resting on an octagonal terrace decorated with friezes and signed by Angiolo Malavolti. This bust, estimated to be from the early 20th century and signed by the Italian artist Angiolo Malavolti, recalls the representation of an Italian mourner, a profession codified in funeral rituals around the world. In Ancient Rome, mourners were hired by wealthy families to accompany the funeral procession and demonstrate the grandeur of the deceased through their tears and theatrical implorations. This bust is in generally good condition and has been thoroughly cleaned. Small chips are present on the terrace, and the bust has been reassembled with the terrace. Ideal as a decorative element on a fireplace, a desk, or in a library, it will add an antique touch to your decor.
