Rustic Oak Trestle Bench, France, 19th Century
A long rustic trestle bench from France, dating from the 19th century. It is made in a simple, honest construction: a thick plank seat with canted corners, resting on two sturdy trestle ends with shaped shoe feet. The wood has a deep, dark patina built up over generations of use, with the grain clearly visible through the worn surface. Its long, low proportions make it ideal as extra seating at a farmhouse dining table, in a hallway or at the foot of a bed. In good condition for its age, with wear and scratches, cracks in the feet and an old repair in the seat, all part of its authentic farmhouse character. A characterful piece of French country furniture.
