Carved Indian furniture

Old indian wedding chest carved in solid wood. The damchiya was the traditional chest containing the dowry that the indian bride took with her to live with her husband. It was made at the request of the bride's family, in anticipation of the wedding. Each piece is therefore unique! This ancient damchiya was typically embedded in the wall of the house, like a real safe. He would be about 150 years old. The feet originally did not exist, and were only added later. It sports two large horses carved on the sides. Its large door and depth make it practical as a storage unit in everyday life. We have kept its patina intact, with khaki green touches and some barely visible golden reflections. This is a vintage piece, second-hand, traces of use are present, which contributes to its uniqueness and charm.
