Roger Bonduel, Handmade Etched Steel Console Table

Console table handmade by Roger Bonduel in Belgium during the 1960s for a modernist chapel. Executed in etched and patinated steel, the piece reflects the material honesty and spatial thinking of Belgian post-war design. Elliptical top on slightly tapered legs in a balanced, architectural composition. The richly textured steel surface, characteristic of Bonduel's approach to metal, contrasts with the more matte finish of the base. Bonduel worked in close collaboration with modernist architect Paul Felix and glass artist Michel Martens, important figures within Belgian modernism. One-of-a-kind piece with refined detailing throughout, preserved in beautiful original condition.
