Macao porcelain plate

At the end of the 19th century, some Chinese craftsmen had fun creating porcelain plates in the style of the Qing dynasty (1644-1911). Hence the seal qianlong nian zhi on the back of the plate, which means made during the reign of the Qianlong Emperor. Although considered replicas, these pieces of local craftsmanship remain of very good quality. Indeed, they are the result of age-old artisanal manufacturing techniques. As a result, each piece is unique and conveys its own history and know-how. This is why, compared to more recent replicas, made in series, handmade replicas remain an affordable and interesting choice in the eyes of collectors.
