Description
Superb vase, unique piece from the bauhaus period and style circa 1920/30, by heinrich meister (1894-1972). Terracotta with soft and smooth white slip, turquoise green enameled interior, finished with a heart-shaped neck highlighted with a light brown line. Apart from a small chip at the base, this piece is in very good used condition (see photos). Height: 29cm - neck: 6.5x4cm - base: 9x8cm - body diameter: 13cm - weight: 1.5kg heinrich meister grew up in münster, in alsace. From 1912, he continued his studies in architecture at the eth zurich. There he met his future business partner, josef kövessi, from debrecen (hungary). In 1919, heinrich meister left his architectural studies and did an internship at the feldmeilen artistic pottery. In 1920, he founded with albert meister, his uncle, the “kunstkeramik werkstatt a. Meister” in stettbach, a district of dübendorf (switzerland). Heinrich married gertrud zingg, ceramist and painter, in 1924. The company developed from 1930 to 1960 with benno geiger. Heinrich and gertrud meister-zingg belong to the “second generation of modern swiss ceramists”, who distinguished themselves through their varied experiments with shapes, colors and patterns. By changing careers, heinrich meister became an internationally recognized “fashionable ceramic designer.” he created forms of rare originality and freshness. Gertrud modeled numerous figurative objects in addition to her activity as a painter.
