Botanical pedagogical poster "Rubiacées", Emile Deyrolle, XIXth, 1890s

Old and rare educational wall board of the deyrolle house. It dates from the late nineteenth century. "botanique, rubiacées" "edited in paris by emile deyrolle, naturalist, 46 rue du bac. Imp. Very decorative, these old boards are true works of art, sublimated by their old patinas and the marks of time. Deyrolle and the pedagogical boards: created in 1831, the deyrolle house has been installed since 1888 in the seventeenth-century mansion at 46 rue du bac, in paris. It was previously located at 23 rue de la monnaie. It offers nature enthusiasts collections of insects and shells, stuffed animals of all kinds, natural curiosities and educational materials for teaching natural sciences. In 1866, emile deyrolle took over the deyrolle house founded in 1831 by his grandfather. Deyrolle then experienced a new boom thanks to the creation of educational boards that he created and that he commercialized in parallel with the sale of insects and stuffed animals. Published under the name of "deyrolle school museum", these illustrated wall plates will meet with great success. In 1870, the state became the first customer of deyrolle which supplied all french schools. These boards were intended for all classes, from primary to secondary school as well as to the university and were intended to teach "lessons of things", botany, zoology, entomology, geography, anatomy, biology... Etc... Emile deyrolle said: "education by the eyes is the one that tires the intelligence the least, but this education can only have good results if the ideas that are engraved in the mind of the child are of rigorous accuracy. ".
