Botanical educational poster "Rubiaceae", Emile Deyrolle, 19th century, 1890s

Old and rare educational wall board from Maison Deyrolle. It dates from the end of the 19th century. “botany, rubiaceae” “published in Paris by Emile Deyrolle, naturalist, 46 rue du Bac. Imp. Monrocq paris” canvas paper attached to two wooden hanging rods. In its original state, wear and traces of time (see Photos) height: 115 cm / width: 88 cm. Very decorative, these old boards are true works of art, enhanced by their old patinas and the marks of time. Deyrolle and the educational boards: created in 1831, Maison Deyrolle has been installed since 1888 in the 17th century mansion at 46 rue du Bac, in Paris. It was previously located at 23 rue de la currency. It offers nature enthusiasts collections of insects and shells, stuffed animals of all kinds, natural curiosities and educational materials for teaching natural sciences. In 1866, Emile Deyrolle took over the Deyrolle house founded in 1831 by his grandfather. Deyrolle then experienced new growth thanks to the creation of educational boards which he created and which he marketed alongside the sale of stuffed insects and animals. Published under the name “deyrolle school museum”, these illustrated wall boards were to be very successful. From 1870, the state became Deyrolle's first customer, supplying all French schools. These boards were intended for all classes, from primary to secondary as well as university and were intended to teach “object lessons”, botany, zoology, entomology, geography, anatomy. , biology… etc… emile deyrolle said: “education through the eyes is the one that tires the intelligence the least, but this education can only have good results if the ideas which are engraved in the mind of the child are rigorously accurate.”
