Pair of antique Catalan chairs with sun face motifs, Cerdagne

🚚 Contact me to discuss shipping costs. Charming pair of handcrafted Catalan chairs in solid oak, made in the Cerdagne region between 1920 and 1940. Each backrest is adorned with a carved sun face (Sol de Cerdagne), a symbol of light and protection, above a heart-shaped cutout. The flared legs are decorated with reliefs carved with a wood chisel, and the pegged mortise and tenon joints attest to traditional craftsmanship. A minor wood filler repair is present on one chair leg, without affecting its stability. A slight play in the backrests is noticeable, which is normal for this type of antique, handcrafted furniture. Beautiful original patina, warm and golden, with the natural nuances of waxed wood. A stable, solid, and characterful set—ideal for a folk art, mountain, or rustic chic decor.
