Large Art Deco wall mirror, double-bevelled glass, 1930s
Art Deco wall mirror from the 1930s. The glass is shaped with a wavy outline, a undulating top, and shoulders. It features a double bevel (stepped bevel). It rests in a half-frame made of carved wood that rises on either side with two scrolls. The decoration is symmetrical: a central bouquet, composed of a basket of flowers and fruits, is flanked by foliage. Two floral rosettes mark the corners. A diamond lattice pattern adorns the scrolls and the wings of the frame. It hangs by a tieback, a twisted beige cord with golden reflections, passed through two metal rings fixed on the sides of the frame. Two tassels hang down on either side. In generally good condition, however, the silvering shows numerous clouding spots (halos) that slightly dull it (see last photo). There are no chips or cracks in the glass. The mirror is slipped into the frame without glue, and it can become detached if handled incorrectly, but it is stable once hung. It should be handled and transported flat, face against oneself. The back is made of raw wood, with a painted background, and shows traces and drips of varnish. Dimensions: 84 X 61 X 2 cm (excluding tassels) / Glass thickness: 0.4 cm. Careful packaging.
