"Pierre d'Avesn, real name Pierre Girre, Saint Germain-en-Laye 1901 - Paris 1990. Pierre d'Avesn was a student of François Decorchemont at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs. He was hired by Lalique, where he remained for 10 years. He worked at Daum between 1930 and 1936, where he developed the production of molded pressed glass in the Lorrain Nancy signed production department. He joined the Verlys company in 1937 in the holophane glass department at the Andelys glassworks. After 1945, he worked at the Choisy-le-Roi crystal factory, where he reissued old models and created new ones. He remained there until his retirement in 1984. Considered one of the last elite glassmakers of the Art Deco era, he died in Paris at the age of 90. " Absence of signature, confirmation that d'Avesn did not sign all of his creations. *** Expert's note. "Pierre d'Avesn's creations are not all signed. Some were signed in ink (which fades over time) some are signed or not, others are never signed especially when he was a designer employed by other glassmakers. " However at the time of the art deco of this vase, he was a designer for Daum.
