"plastic chair" by Charles & Ray Eames

"making the best accessible to as many people as possible" is how Charles and Ray Eames described one of their primary goals as furniture designers. Among their creations, none of them have allowed them to get as close to this ideal as the plastic chairs. The idea of creating a one-piece seating shell, adapted to human anatomy, preoccupied the couple of designers for many years. After experiments with plywood and aluminum sheet failed to produce satisfactory results in the 1940s, they discovered fiberglass enhanced polyester resin during their search for alternative materials.
