A restored piano stool from the renowned Viennese firm Thonet Brothers, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. This stool is made of solid wood and features a bentwood ring frame. The cabriole legs are held together by this ring. Heavy and very stable, it is height-adjustable by approximately 4 to 6 cm thanks to a long axle. The seat is made of Viennese wicker, while the other elements are solid beech. On this early model, the seat ring still rests on a cruciform wooden support; on later models, this support was replaced with metal. The axle moves very smoothly and without any play. Restoration status: all screws are tight. The hand-woven webbing has been carefully restored in a workshop in Schwerin using an extremely durable polymer cotton braiding thread. The surfaces are finished with a glossy black lacquer. The stool bears the original Thonet stamp and fragments of the paper label under the seat. These remnants allow us to date its production between 1881 and 1922. A choice collector's item. Height 49-63 cm. Seat diameter 38 cm. Weight 5700 g.
