Column of Hermes of Dionysus

Reproduction of the bronze statue of hermes on a carrara marble column. Hermes of dionysus, identified as ancient "divine fire", as attested by many elements of his legend and his cult. He is the son of zeus and the mortal semele. His festivities were the driving force behind the development of theater and tragedy. The bronze bust (the original) was found near lausanne, cast before being returned to the museum. It is dated to the 1st century ad.
