Original print on albumen paper by arnold vollenweider. Very beautiful old photo printed on albumen paper, and deposited on a map of the famous studio of arnold vollenweider in algiers, "great gold medals" obtained in nice and geneva in 1899. The albumen paper technique is due to louis désiré blanquart-evrard (1802-1872). As early as 1850, he designed a process on paper coated with salted egg white and made sensitive by silver nitrate: albumen paper. After drying, the draw is carried out by direct blackening. The positive image is obtained by contact with the negative, in a chassis-press. Original hardcover edition representing a young french tourist on a trip to algiers, in indigenous costume, very popular with amateurs. The portrait is in excellent condition, is neither nor damaged, and dates from the early twentieth century. It is a unique example. Important precision: the hue of the 2 full-page photos is not perfectly faithful to that of the portrait. These are indeed photos from a scan of the original, all the others correspond more to the real sepia hue. In addition, the support present in 2 of the photos is not part of the sale. It is only there for the presentation of the photo in situation. Size: • photo 97 X 140 mm; • card 107 X 163 mm.
