Gilded bronze tondo with mythological decoration – The Arts and the Muses
Gilded bronze tondo with mythological decoration – The Arts and the Muses – 19th century. Important circular tondo in gilded and repoussé bronze, featuring a richly detailed relief decoration inspired by mythology and allegory. The composition is organised around a central medallion depicting a lyre surrounded by two putti, symbols of music and the arts. All around unfolds a multitude of characters drawn from the repertoire of Antiquity: draped or nude female figures, musicians, putti, and characters accompanied by various attributes. The whole evokes an allegory of the Arts, Music, and the Muses, in a particularly decorative and abundant composition. The bronze work offers beautiful reliefs and numerous details: musical instruments, draperies, winged figures, and ornaments inspired by Antiquity. The ancient gilded patina presents nuances and traces of oxidation that naturally highlight the reliefs. A spectacular piece, which can be displayed as a decorative wall element, in a cabinet of curiosities, or within a collection of bronzes. Period: 19th century. Material: gilded bronze. Shape: circular tondo. Decoration: mythological scene and allegory of the Arts. Diameter: 36 cm. In good used condition with ancient patina, oxidations, visible traces, and wear consistent with its age.
