Large Cocoon pendant lamp in the shape of a Diabolo. Design by Friedel Wauer. Edition Goldkant Leuchten, Germany, in the 1960s. A thin steel structure covered with sprayed resin, imitating fiberglass, creates a soft and pleasant lighting effect. The "cocoon" technology was developed by the German Friedel Wauer, who discovered a mechanical way to cover a steel mesh by imitating the material produced by the silkworm. Many designers, such as George Nelson, Pier & Achille Castiglione and Tobia Scarpa, were fascinated by the lighting effect and the properties of the "cocoon" material. Good overall condition. An old repair at the bottom of the lamp, invisible except when looking from below.
