"meissen" pattern oval tray by boch la louvière, from the 1920s. The celebrated “meissen”-design was another powerhouse-design of boch la louvière. The tray, listed here, was made in the 1920’s and is in the typical blue colour of this design. Consisting of stylized wildflowers, they appear in a wonderful both along the edge of the tray and in a central oval drawing. The fluent lines are very much a testament to the art nouveau art-style. “meissen” has a lot of similar designs from competitors and it’s quite difficult to know who inspired who. Similar designs are to be found with the “saxe”-design from nimy (for an example, see our page), the famous “immortelles de saxe”-design and the “meissen”-design of sort of sister-company, villeroy et boch. What is meissen. Meissen is a german town where the first european porcelain company was founded in 1710. Condition: the tray in excellent condition. Dimensions: length 32cm/12, 6 inches; width 21, 5cm/8, 46 inches; height 4, 3cm/1, 69 inches. Made in belgium.
