Rare, superb polychrome plate with a 19th century floral cut, in opaque earthenware of the sarreguemines factory, 21.7cm diameter. On the back, a lorraine coat of arms topped with a black crown (circa 1857-1914) and the number 5a engraved. The opaque is a fine white earthenware obtained by adding kaolin in the dough to the tune of 25%. Also named is: half-porcelain, opaque porcelain or ironstone. This plate is more than 100 years old, which explains the lack of enamel (see photos). The upside down is well preserved.
