Bohemian crystal vase

Small vase on foot carved with floral motifs in yellow tones. Bohemian crystal is a variety of lead oxide glass, transparent and clear like rock crystal. It was in the 18th century that Bohemia distinguished itself in the history of the crystal industry both for the creation of an artificial crystal and for the quality of its glass workers. The name "crystal" is however older since it was used in Venice at the end of the 15th century by Venetian glassmakers to characterize objects made of particularly fine and transparent glass. It was only in the 18th century that Bohemian crystal demonstrated the quality of a hard and brilliant glass. Dimensions height 11.5 cm, foot diameter 6 cm and opening 9 cm. Slight chip at the collar.
