Mahogany pedestal table, Empire period, early 19th century

This mahogany pedestal table opens at the waist with a small drawer. Its solid, circular top rests on a flared shaft with ringed moldings at the base. The latter ends with a raised tripod base with concave sides. Always appreciated for its size, the pedestal table is the ultimate occasional piece of furniture, so when it has lasted two centuries without the slightest wrinkle, it becomes a beautiful piece of useful and solid cabinetmaking. ******** Period: early 19th century.
