2611 - from the early twentieth century, complete, molded glass, this water-preservative butter dish signed by the schimdt glassworks in vannes-le-châtel in good condition. No cracks or major splinter except marks of normal use attesting to its age. Height 130 mm X 161 mm. Weight 1280 g. Neat and tracked shipment. For information, this type of butter dish keeps butter without a refrigerator for at least 10 days. It is kept in salt water put in its lower part to preserve its freshness while the upper part receives the lump of butter. Salt ensuring better preservation. The verrerie de vannes-le-châtel, owned by the schimdt & bourbonneux families until 1970, merged with those of vallérysthal, portieux, bayel and fains becoming the compagnie française du cristal (c.f.c) and integrated into that of daum under the name c.f.c. Daum. It switched from glass to crystal between 1962 and 1964 by marketing under the brand "cristal de sèvres".
