Description
Ernst von valentini (1759-1835) miniature "portrait of a man" signed lower left and dated 1798 in a blackened wooden frame and under glass miniature diameter: 6cm dimensions with frame: 13x12.5cm bibliography: bénézit, 1964 *initially a librarian who loved drawing, valentini traveled to geneva then to turin, where he worked at the court of vittorio amedeo III. Between 1786 and 1787, he stayed first in milan, then in parma, where he represented the royal family, before settling in florence, where he studied at the academy and created portraits of leopold and his father. In rome he was supported by joseph von fries. He was in naples in 1792. Three years later he was appointed hofmaler at the court of detmold. He continued to travel extensively among small german courts such as that of öttingen. He specializes in miniatures and landscapes.
