Oil on canvas. Signed at the bottom left. Emilio Rizzi established himself primarily as a portraitist, both during his training years in Paris and later in Brescia, honing his ability to depict the psychological traits of faces. His painting technique relies on the interaction of multiple brush strokes to create the final result, while working on a meticulously executed underlying drawing. This is an almost full-length portrait of a distinguished, elegant, and smiling gentleman. The painting has been restored and re-canvas-mounted in the past (the stamp from the Lonardini laboratory in Brescia is on the back). It is presented in a period gilded frame.
