Rare and elegant pair of Art Deco bookends featuring stylised female faces inspired by ancient Egyptian aesthetics. Crafted from sculpted alabaster and marble, these decorative objects showcase a refined geometric composition typical of the Egyptian Revival movement of the 1920s-1930s. The striped headdresses in ivory, beige, and anthracite tones create a very sophisticated graphic contrast, while the delicately modelled faces bring softness and balance to the whole. The marble bases enhance their sculptural and architectural presence. Highly decorative on a bookshelf, console, or desk, these bookends also serve as true decorative art objects. Both functional and decorative, these bookends can be used to hold a row of books or simply as sculptural objects on a shelf, desk, or console. There are small chips and more pronounced wear on the edges and protruding parts. A repair is present on one corner of the base (see photo). Weight: 3.660kg.
