Description
French ceramic vase from the middle of the last century by marcel giraud - vallauris - 1960s. Enamelled signed under the base "giraud", in vallauris. Circa 1960-1970. Unique piece. Marcel giraud, french ceramist, settled in the 1950s in vallauris, a village known for its ceramics and energized in the 1950s by the arrival of pablo picasso who now also works pottery. Located on the côte d'azur coast, this village became in this post-war period a place of intense creation where pablo picasso embarked on pottery and where many artists such as jean cocteau, marc chagall, fernand léger rubbed shoulders. Roger capron, robert picault, suzanne ramié have become renowned ceramists. But pottery was above all an art of fire, so his desire for knowledge led him to the tolia workshop where he experimented with wood firing, the only one at the time. He learned the alchemy of fire, the chemistry of oxides. And the construction of furnaces. After working for the argonauts and albert thiry, marcel giraud launched his own workshop in 1960. For fifteen years, he has been producing decorative and culinary ceramics that he first signed cardelle, then his name marcel giraud.
