We present to you a monumental masterpiece of 20th-century lighting design: a "Metropolitan" Starburst chandelier of exceptional dimensions, designed by Hans Harald Rath in 1963 and crafted by the legendary court glassmaker of Vienna, J. & L. Lobmeyr. This particular piece is an exceptional custom order of great significance, with impeccable cultural provenance. Originally, it was made to order for a prominent opera patron and major benefactor of both the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Salzburg Festival (Salzburger Festspiele). Custom model: unlike mass-produced models, this chandelier features rare and refined customisation. The central spheres and orbital nodes — which are typically offered in black or classic metallic shades — have been carefully painted in a deep and captivating midnight blue. This subtle yet profound modification beautifully highlights the cosmic "space age" theme of the design, providing a fascinating contrast to the brilliant bursts of light.
