Mahogany library – Empire / Restoration period – 20th century. An important and elegant mahogany library, featuring a sober and monumental architecture characteristic of the Empire style and the early Restoration period. The façade, perfectly balanced, opens in the centre with two large glazed doors, framed by uprights adorned with rich gilt bronze appliqués featuring palmette and floral motifs. The side sections are closed by two large solid doors, particularly highlighting the beautiful swirling grain of the mahogany. The upper cornice, widely overhanging, is accentuated in the centre by an elegant gilt bronze ornament composed of foliage and rosettes. The interior offers significant storage capacity thanks to its numerous shelves, allowing for the display of a fine collection of books, art objects, or porcelain. The glazed doors feature an interesting old locking and fastening system in brass, visible in the photographs. The whole rests on short turned feet, with the front uprights embellished at their base with hooves or claw motifs in gilt bronze. A particularly decorative library piece due to its large proportions, the quality of its mahogany, and the elegance of its gilt bronzes. Period: 20th century, Empire / Restoration. Material: mahogany, bronze, and gilt brass. Dimensions: Height: 182 cm. Width: 251 cm. Depth: 51 cm. Condition of use corresponding to its age, with some marks and visible old restorations in the photographs.
