Large vallauris platter this is a very rare vintage mid-century 1960s fruit platter/bowl. It is marked "vallauris" on the underside (see photo). The quaint little town of vallauris is in the alpes-maritimes department of the provence-alpes-côte d'azur region in southeastern france. It became world famous when picasso lived there in the 1940s and 1950s and vallauris majolica is famous for its beautiful glazes and extraordinary shapes. This bowl has been hand painted in an expressive, highly textured mid-century modern design that is typically characteristic of pottery from the region. It is a lovely brown with touches of yellow and blue. Perfect as a centerpiece platter and equally beautiful as a fruit bowl. Anyone who collects mid-century majolica glazed pottery would love this wonderful piece. Dimensions: length 42 cm width 26cm height 7cm.
