Description
These two wooden pots with their lids have a crazy charm. With their geometric and clean lines, they are in an art deco style and it is likely that they really date from this time. Designed to contain sugar and coffee, they are probably the only survivors of a larger series, a housewife of several boxes receiving the different spices and ingredients kept in a kitchen. They are all wooden, hand painted on the front. Their condition is a reflection of their age: they are still in good structural condition, solid, without cracks but has various marks and stains, so I will reserve them for non-food use, a small lack on the corner of a lid too. In addition, the varnish (shellac probably) that covered them at the time and the paint of the pattern at the front, had gaps (important for the varnish, a little less for the paint) and continued to chip in places, so I chose to preserve what was left and protect the boxes and this pretty drawing, passing a layer of varnish (of a darker shade but less covering than the original shade in the tones golden yellows not found in varnish and which I do not yet master the shellac technique). The largest measures 12.5 cm by 11 cm for a height of 17 cm, the smallest measures 11.5 cm by 10 cm for a height of 15 cm. The whole weighs about 950 g.
