Brutalist wall lamp in brass with agate inclusion by Christian Krekels.
Wall light by Christian Krekels. Belgium 1980. In a brutalist style, this wall light is composed of a thoughtful assembly of brass pieces forming a harmonious vision of radiance once illuminated. A glow emanates from its centre through the heart of an agate stone. Like a star become, rays project vapourous designs and warm waves onto the surfaces defining the space of the room, transforming straight lines and angles into shadows and dreamy swirls. Initially associated with a table signed by the artist in an exceptional interior. The signature does not distinctly appear on this commissioned piece. Certainly, the engraved patterns following the artist's technique evoking the vegetal can be found on other creations by the artist, such as this pair of lamps documented in the accompanying photo gallery. Christian Krekels was trained at the Saint-Luc Institute of Arts in Tournai. He initially focused his career on diamonds and precious stones but later turned to sculpture. He has worked on both figurative and abstract sculptures, as well as artistic coffee tables with characteristic table tops. Krekels primarily works with various metals and, as in this case, has treated this brass piece in an unparalleled manner. Dimensions: 52 cm high, 39 cm wide, and 10 cm thick.
