The bottle with handle made in Normandy by the pottery centers is first of all a utilitarian stoneware pottery to serve all kinds of food liquids in the kitchen (oil, vinegar), at the farm tables but also to the field worker: water, cider, perry and brandy. In Cotentin, it was called “choquet” but also “pot à bère”, that is to say cider pot. In the rest of Normandy, it’s the “bottle”. It appears in potters' catalogs at the end of the 19th century as a "round or flat bottle" or a "handled bottle". In Martincamp, in the Bray region, it is called a “neck jug”. All these bottles were produced by hand on a wheel and not molded. Several clues allow us to identify the origin of the manufacture of the bottle (shape and location of the handle, shape of the body, type of soil), but it is sometimes difficult to identify it as their appearance and color vary greatly. depending on the turner's technique, firing, placement in the kiln and finishing with or without salt glaze or slip. This is the story of this beautiful 19th century jug. It shows some signs of wear but is in very good condition. Height 31 cm. Width 19 cm. Base width 12 cm. Weight 1.5 kg. Old - decoration - vintage - shabby style - antique - idea - Christmas gift.
