The slip has been replaced with a contemporary choice that is sympathetic to the frame and the painting’s aesthetic. The cattle are in an open area of verdant pasture dotted with purple heather. In the background we see the imposing slopes of the mountain ranges that form the highlands. The sky above is misty and atmospheric.
