Description
Stellar sommerso diamond faceted 'geode' murano glass bowl by alessandro mandruzzato (italy, 1970s). Made of very thick and heavy blue glass cased in a layer of clear glass. Honeycomb diamond faceted pattern on the exterior and flat cut polished top. High quality craftsmanship and extremely decorative object. It perfectly works as a bowl or catch-all. Can be used as a display piece on any table. Very large model (usually the ones offered on the market are smaller). Diameter: 15.5 cm; height: 7.5 cm. Quite heavy: 1.5 kg. Very good vintage condition, usual light wear consistent with age and use at the bottom. "sommerso" (italian for ''submerged'') is a technique developed in murano in the 1930s which became very popular in the 1950s-70s. The result is a glass with contrasting colours that is commonly cased by a clear layer.
