Immerse yourself in the golden age of french ceramics with this superb rectangular dish by robert picault (1919–2000), an iconic ceramist from vallauris. A student at the école des arts appliqués and close to picasso and roger capron, picault left his mark on his era with his graphic patterns and deep, ever-recognizable glazes. This generously sized piece, 25 X 18 cm, is a fine example: a geometric design of oval medallions adorned with stylized honey-brown suns, circled in an intense coppery green, on a white background. The glaze is luminous and vibrant, and the hypnotic shapes evoke the modernity of the 1950s. On the back, we find the hand-painted signature: "rp". Ceramist: robert picault period: 1950s technique: glazed earthenware with brush decoration dimensions: 25 X 18 cm signature: rp (on the reverse) condition: excellent vintage condition, no chips, shiny enamel ideal for lovers of mid-century design, vallauris collectors or lovers of beautiful pieces of character.
